Comment 1 Roy Marples (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-21 14:34:58 UTC
At a wild guess I'd say that's baselayout-1.12 looking at a Gentoo system installed from a broken stage3 tarball.

The fix is to do this for each broken service.
rc-upate delete <servicename> <runlevel>
rc-update add <servicename> <runlevel>

And next time, attach your emerge --info, thanks

Comment 3 Arnvid L. Karstad 2007-08-21 15:24:31 UTC
Sorry to say, having to remove and re-add all services like that seems a bit broken to me....This is something that a emerge -u system shouldn't break in my humble opinion.
Comment 4 Roy Marples (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-21 15:30:01 UTC
You're right, but the broken links where installed by a stage3 tarball we used to ship. baselayout-1.12.x relies on those links to work and ONLY the stage3 tarball installed them. As such they need to be manually fixed.
Comment 5 Roy Marples (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-21 15:31:04 UTC
You should also note that the the tarball in question is now quite old and this sounds like you haven't updated your system in a very long time.
