Emerging Evolution adds a KDE Evolution item by creating /usr/share/applnk/Applications/evolution-1.3.desktop. Gnome, trying to be helpful, picks up on /usr/share/applnk and tries to add a menu for it, but it contains broken images that look very ugly. rm -rf /usr/share/applnk fixes the problem, but it would be very nice for us non-KDE users if this file was _not_ created (or deleted during the ebuild install phase, if evolution itself insists on creating it). This affects all versions of evolution in portage (including the 1.3.1 devel version). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge evolution 2. Start GNOME 3. Click the GNOME foot Actual Results: I saw the ugly KDE menu (which I don't want at all) with a broken icon Expected Results: /usr/share/applnk should not be created unless the 'kde' use flag is set. USE=".... -kde ..."
fair comment. i'll only fix this on unstable ebuilds at the moment, that means 1.2.4 and 1.3.1. we should also fix the broken kde icon in gnome-panel menus too.
