I think perhaps it might be a good idea to add to the documentation the information to change modelines for vga on framebuffer support. it is usually commented in the grub/lilo.conf although we dont have that. i have supplied a grid of available modes. they are added on the kernel command line, such as vga=795 bbp | 640x480 | 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x1024 | |------------------------------------------| 8 | 769 | 771 | 773 | 775 | 16 | 785 | 788 | 791 | 794 | 32 | 786 | 789 | 792 | 795 | Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
I have just found out this is all explained int he example grub.conf supplied with bootsplash. this is an optonal package although its all in here. what are other peoples opinions?
My opinion: if you use framebuffer, you should know what it is and therefor having a vga-listing in our documentation isn't necessary as long as we don't recommend having framebuffer.
What the heck, ppl who want framebuffer will be glad if we deliver them the answer on a golden plate :) http://cvs.gentoo.org/~swift/gentoo-x86-install.html has the added information. Search for "vga=xxx". If approved by the reviewing-committee, I'll add this to the CVS.
