Comment 2 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-24 16:50:16 UTC
is fmt already in portage tree ?
Comment 3 Björn Lindström 2003-04-24 23:32:30 UTC
It's in sys-apps/textutils
Comment 4 rob holland (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-06-18 05:27:26 UTC
Not sure what to do with this at the moment as it clashes with another ebuild already in portage, including wanting to install a binary with the same name...
Comment 5 rob holland (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-06-28 06:46:20 UTC
coronalvr suggests making the two clashing packages mutually exclusive...anyone object to that?
Comment 6 rob holland (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-17 02:10:12 UTC
No time for gentoo dev stuff right now :(
Comment 7 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-11-16 23:38:18 UTC
Okay, sorry this has gone so long without a resolution. Can we add this under a different name, like par-formatter or par-format, par-text ? Any objections ? It's completely unrelated to the par (archiving tool) that we allready have in portage. They arent functionally mutually exclusive, they just share the same name, so we need to rename it.
Comment 8 Björn Lindström 2003-11-17 04:03:41 UTC
par-format would make the most sense. However, shouldn't this be an unproblem, as long as the packages with the same names are in different categories?
Comment 9 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-11-17 04:35:36 UTC
not necessarily. how often do you actually use emerge <category>/<package> as opposed to just emerge <package>. i'd say most people likely just emerge <package> to install. also, the installed binaries conflict by name, which is definitely a problem. and besides that, isnt par-format a more descriptive name for a text-formatting application ? i tend to think it is. if there are no arguments against, i'll go this way.

(and why is bugzilla not wrapping, gr)
Comment 10 Mamoru KOMACHI (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-02-21 08:15:18 UTC
According to the fix of bug #22699, portage will prompt when there are
more than two packages available if you specify ambiguous name. So I
just changed the binary name to par-format, as Obz suggested in comment
#7 and #9, and committed it. Thanks for the contribution.
