Description Thomas Capricelli 2007-08-09 23:54:24 UTC
I've noticed for some times that when i reboot my computer, the alsasound init.d scripts says "Killing processes using ALSA", and hangs. Everytime i reboot it does that. I can't kill (control-c), and if i wait, nothing happen. As a result, i need to (hardware) reset the computer. And this time, my (/) reiserfs partition got corrupted in some very bad way. ( usually it's just a matter of replaying some journal thinguies)

So i think that now i should report it.
I have no clue what prevent the killing, but i think that whatever happens to the killing stuff, the halting should be able to keep on going. isn't it ?

Reproducible: Always

Which media-sound/alsa-utils version is this about? Which modules you have loaded? in /etc/modules.d/alsa?
Comment 2 Thomas Capricelli 2007-08-10 10:19:34 UTC
genlop says :
     Mon Jul 16 22:27:57 2007 >>> media-sound/alsa-utils-1.0.14

/etc/modules.d/alsa contains (comments removed) :
alias char-major-116 snd
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss
alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss
options snd cards_limit=1

( i dont remember having changed anything there)

The module related to sound are :

snd_timer 28744 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd 70888 13 snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer
snd_page_alloc 13200 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm
snd_pcm_oss 48704 0

Noone will notice again if you don't reopen the bug. Doing now.
Comment 4 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-01-31 14:50:27 UTC
In alsa-utils-1.0.16-rc1, you can now set UNLOAD_ON_STOP="no" in /etc/conf.d/alsa to keep the module unload from happening.
