Description Marcin Dylewski 2007-08-09 22:18:18 UTC
After upgrade kernel to gentoo-sources-2.6.21-r4 from 2.6.15 and compiling ati-drivers-8.35.4 whenever i try to switch from X to console i can see a totally messed up screen. Switching back to X render the screen fine altough i can see a blinking of the screen for a short period of time. When the console is "active" i can issue commands and can see that they work fine (i started find / and i can see that HDD LED is blinking).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start X (doesn't matter how)
2. Switch to console (ctrl+alt+F6)
3. Switch to X again (ctrl+F7)

Actual Results:
On step two the screen is totally messed up. The system seems to be running tough.

Expected Results:
The console should be displayed.

I am doing this on a ACER Aspire 5101WLMi laptop.

Here is the output of lspci:

Shrug; you can try w/ latest ati-drivers; if it still doesn't work, you should report it to ATI, including any output in syslog, xorg-server version etc. We cannot fix closed-source stuff.

If you are using radeonfb for console, try vesafb instead.
