there is an ebuild for that package.masked, please check if it is working for you and reopen the bug if you still think that can be useful.
I tested just to discover that has serious issues with some program/games (ut2003 just to name one) and on the other hand works fine with 4.3.0 and has better performance when works (nwn just to name another game)
