Description Graham Murray 2007-07-29 16:54:55 UTC
When attempting to build a perl module using 'g-cpan -i Module::Name' it unpacks the sources, then when compiling the source claims 'no Make or Build file detected', and continues without error but also without building or installing anything!

An example 'g-cpan -i Net::DNS::Resolver::Programmable'

>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking Net-DNS-Resolver-Programmable-v0.003.tar.gz to /var/tmp/portage/perl-gcpan/Net-DNS-Resolver-Programmable-0.003/work
>>> Source unpacked.
>>> Compiling source in /var/tmp/portage/perl-gcpan/Net-DNS-Resolver-Programmable-0.003 ...
 * No Make or Build file detected...
>>> Source compiled.
>>> Test phase [not enabled]: perl-gcpan/Net-DNS-Resolver-Programmable-0.003

>>> Install Net-DNS-Resolver-Programmable-0.003 into /var/tmp/portage/perl-gcpan/Net-DNS-Resolver-Programmable-0.003/image/ category perl-gcpan
 * Cleaning out stray man files
>>> Completed installing Net-DNS-Resolver-Programmable-0.003 into /var/tmp/portage/perl-gcpan/Net-DNS-Resolver-Programmable-0.003/image/

 * Man pages are not installed for most modules now.
 * Please use perldoc instead.

After running ebuild unpack
newton Net-DNS-Resolver-Programmable-v0.003 # ls
Build.PL CHANGES debian INSTALL lib LICENSE Makefile.PL MANIFEST META.yml README SIGNATURE TODO

Which shows that there is indeed a Makefile.PL

The same happens with any other modules I try to install from CPAN using g-cpan.

I have now found the problem. I had previously used g-cpan to install Bundle::CPAN and that installed something incompatible with g-cpan. Having removed all of these packages, g-cpan works again.
