To get right to the point, please apply http://dev.gentoo.org/~truedfx/strace-4.5.15-invalid-time.patch so that strace perl -e 'utime 0, 4*10**17, "..."' doesn't segfault on amd64. It doesn't handle all theoretically possible definitions of time_t, but it's enough for the current systems. I've sent this upstream as well, with a note about a slightly more complete solution, but judging from the current open / committed patch ratio, it'll never ever be fixed there...
