Description Clemens Ager 2003-04-02 07:17:20 UTC
I working on a machine localized for german but also need to write japanese
texts from time to time. I emerged most packages with cjk support and some
produce weird behaviour as they seem to have lost support for 'german' characters.
Packages I noticed problems are: aterm, evolution, openoffice, xmms and probably
some more.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. set cjk in make conf.
2. emerge evolution (eg.)
3. set LANG to de (but supposedly the problems even appear in english)
4. start evolution

Actual Results:
evolution, xmms, openoffice: some texts in menus disappeared., the compose
window in evolution won't come up.
aterm: umlauts won't display. Some strings eg. ' G' are replaced by chinese
characters

I know this problem lies within the source code of the packages, but I think
there should at least be a warning for 'european' users that cjk might break
some things.
Maybe a new flag could be introduced 'cjk-save' or so that only ebuilds that
will work with umlauts AND chinese charakters will be built.

hmm, would you be able to provide us with more information so we can work on this? as far as i know, in evolution's case, i believe it was a problem with a particular version of gtk+-1.2.10 which should be fixed now.

there are no particular things that cjk enables on xfree or gtk+ that are cjk specific except for installing Chinese/Japanese/Korean fonts.

Could anyone involved please check if this problem is still present?

Stale bug, reopen if this is still an issue.
