Description Maarten de Boer 2007-07-21 21:49:41 UTC
When I boot from the live cd xorg attempts to start but fails. Shows me that the glx and the GLcore modules can't be loaded and finaly that there are no screens found. I use a Nvidia 8600GTS on a mainboard with NForce4 (wich works fine). I know ubuntu 7.04 Feisty doesn't have this problem. When I boot without fb it shows me that it found my card but that it's unknown with something like code 400 I believe. I think the nv module is too old and that it has to do with that de glx module isn't found.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Boot into gentoo 2007.0 using the live cd no matter wich kernel.
2.Wait till the xorg server starts
3.Let xorg show the detailed output.

Actual Results:
Xorg killed it self with a blue screen and a warning message so gdm also stopped. Installer works fine in text mode though.

Expected Results:
Xorg should load the glx and eventualy the GLcore modules.

Gentoo version: 2007.0
Graphics card: XFX 8600 GTS/720 (Extreme Edition) PCI-e

Same for me with an Foxxconn GeForce8600 GT PCI-E with both an AMD athlon 64 FX on a Asus A8N-E and a Intel E6750 on a Gigabyte P35C-DS3R.

Gentoo version: 2007.0 x86 and AMD64

Can anyone test/verify this on 2008.0 Beta 1?

well, i own an nvidia 8800GT and i remember that i need to unmask an nvidia drivers that was recent when i brought it in december.
So it's logic that the nvidia-drivers include in 2007.0 doesn't know those cards and doesn't work with them.

The real bug i see there, is that livecd should take vesa when it find an unknown nvidia card or this will happen again on 2008 with a "new unknown" nvidia 1000S00490GTTURBO4X2 card
