Description Michal Suchanek 2007-07-18 12:06:05 UTC
The stylesheets for gentoo web pages generally specify the background color but do not specify the foreground color for all elements.

Specifically the color for a:link and a:visited is missing. Sometimes even text color is missing.

This means that the link text is rendered on the page specific background with browser theme specific foreground color, possibly unreadable or even invisible.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
0. browse the gentoo site
1. use browser settings with different default page colors
2. browse the gentoo site

Actual Results:
most of the elements on the pages do not change as their color is specified in the stylesheet. However, the link color does change. Choosing a theme with light link color makes links unreadable.

Expected Results:
The page should render completely in site specific colors or completely in browser colors, not mix the two.

This happens specifically to links on gentoo overlays site http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/overlays/devguide.xml , text and links in the top100 frame in the bug report page http://bugs.gentoo.org/duplicates.cgi?product=Website%20www.gentoo.org&format=simple, links in documentation http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/index.xml , links on bugzilla http://bugs.gentoo.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Website%20www.gentoo.org&format=guided

Can reproduce on bugs.g.o, not on www.go

This is happening here too.

I mailed the webmaster some weeks ago, but I've got no reply yet, so I wrote about this in the fora:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-574419.html

There's a W3C QA tip on this:
http://www.w3.org/QA/Tips/color

And a screenshot is available at:

Thanks for the tip and screenshot.

FYI, neither background nor foreground colours were specified for links.
White background property was inherited and foreground colours came from your defaults, hence the light colours on white.
It should be fixed on www.g.o within an hour.

bugs.g.o still needs some TLC

This appears to have been fixed long ago.

I confirm http://www.gentoo.org/ has been fixed, but this still affects http://packages.gentoo.org/.
