Hello I would like to propose that a dedicated Daily Bug Reports Mailing List be created to do the following. - at end of each day it will email out a list of all bugs reported on that day - this will include both pending and resolved bugs - the email will include details of the bug and link to the actual page but will not list who the bug reporter and resolver is to maintain privacy - separate lists can be produced for each architecture/platform if thought suitable - it can be made to accept bug report emails only or both bug report and user input depending on what you prefer; personally I think all traffic should be directed to the bugs site rather than the list Benefits of having such a list would be as follows. - reduced likelihood of users posting duplicate bugs - users warned on potential problems and their solutions before they occur - users encouraged to participate in resolution of bugs by bringing pending bugs to their knowledge - users encouraged to follow better bug writing guidelines for example to write better titles etc. Kindly consider this idea which has already met the consent of one developer and let me know your thoughts. Instead of visiting bugs.gentoo.org everyday and having to refresh 'Today's Bugs' this would make the process of keeping informed easier. Many thanks
zhen -- can you get Colin a dump of the database so he can work on this? --kurt
I've now got a database dump, and I'll what can be done.
Side note: I've just performed the glibc update and my system has become completely unusable. If bugs were emailed out one can prevent such things from recurring once the first bug has been filed on any problem.
in the new bugzilla, there is a 'whine' feature where one can have certain queries emailed on a $time_period basis. http://www.bugzilla.org/releases/2.20/new-features.html#wh i will be installing 2.20 (or any few-days-after release releases) on bugs.g.o in due time
I have installed 2.20 and enabled whining for the time being just for developers. I am going to get their pulse on how its working and see about enabling it for the general user population.
reassign
Moving to Bugzilla product. whining works, but we were concerned about CPU load with it. The new bugzilla supports Atom RSS feeds of searches, which you can use very easily to build mails to the list. Just run a query every hour, parse the Atom into something useful for your emails, and send email. Is there still interest in this request anyway?
After 2 years of no response, I'd say interest has waned, Robiin. :) Perhaps it's time to close this bug?
