Description Alan Hourihane 2007-07-15 21:30:02 UTC
When booting the CD on alpha, it complains about the xfs module saying...

module xfs: Relocation overflow vs per_cpu__xfsstats
FATAL: Error inserting xfs (/lib/modules/2.6.19-gentoo-r5/kernel/fs/xfs/xfs.ko): Invalid module format

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-17 02:46:34 UTC
last few lines of dmesg output from after the failed module load may be useful
Comment 2 Alan Hourihane 2007-07-19 09:34:39 UTC
Hi Daniel - those are the only extra messages produced after the failed module load.
Comment 3 Alan Hourihane 2007-07-19 10:33:23 UTC
Having done a little research it seems that it's related to the version of GCC that the kernel was built with for the release CD. Maybe 4.1.1 on alpha wasn't good.

As I've rebuilt the kernel with gcc 4.1.2 and the module loads fine.
Comment 4 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-04-08 20:37:46 UTC
Can you verify this with a 2008.0 Beta 1 CD? I'd like to think that this is resolved now.

This should be fixed in 2008.0. Please reopen if the issue remains
