With ntfsprogs-1.13.1, ntfsresize makes Vista boot into a black screen where nothing can be done except forcibly shutting down the computer. When attempting to boot from the DVD, the same thing happens. A search brought up http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=398122 and after manually installing the ntfsprogs-20070207 snapshot from http://data.linux-ntfs.org/cvs-snapshots/, and running ntfsfix, Vista indeed became bootable again. I can provide emerge --info output (if required) tomorrow, I'm not in Linux now.
i'm not a fan of doing snapshots of packages when said packages dont have very active people watching them. why not ask upstream to make a new release ? also, sounds like ntfsprogs detected a "broken" windows install and decided to make sure you didnt use it anymore ;)
Created attachment 124799 [details, diff] ntfsresize-vista.diff (In reply to comment #1) > i'm not a fan of doing snapshots of packages when said packages dont have very > active people watching them. why not ask upstream to make a new release ? There is a fairly recent question about it on the forum already, I'll see if that gets a reply. Meanwhile, the ntfsresize homepage is unavailable, but at <http://web.archive.org/web/20070103010329/http://mlf.linux.rulez.org/mlf/ezaz/ntfsresize.html> the patch for ntfsprogs can be downloaded, and I've attached it here. It avoids the problem in ntfsresize. (It does not change any other utility, so if you're screwed already, it won't unscrew you.) This is included in the Debian patchset, too. You could use that if you prefer.
that patch is whitespace damaged, but i fixed it and added to 1.13.1-r1
