www.racer.nl Just look at the screenshots... wow... And it's free and the author is happy for it to be distributed - here's a quote from http://www.racer.nl/legal.htm: "Use of any of the published source code in commercial software is explicilty NOT allowed without prior written permission. Distributions on Linux distributions (as is done on SuSE8.0 for example) IS however allowed." Here's a 0.4.9 ebuild: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13539 Hell, this shold be on the liveCD. Bob, thoughts on a livecd with this?
hrmm, yea i gotta check this out. looks like racer has came a long way.
How's about starting by getting it into portage first?
Added racer-bin-0.5.0 into portage with ~x86 KEYWORD. Please test away and report. Bob, if you wanna look at it for a livecd, please go ahead.
Seems to be hardcoded to require fmod-0.61 gives the following error with fmod-0.62 and racer-bin-0.5.0 ./bin/racer: error while loading shared libraries: libfmod-3.61.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I get the exact same message: ./bin/racer: error while loading shared libraries: libfmod-3.61.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory --alex
How to solve the "error while loading shared libraries: libfmod-3.61.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" bug: Racer needs fmod-3.61, but gentoo wants to install the 3.62 Version, but this problem is very easy to solve. Change to root and type the following: "ln -s /usr/lib/libfmod-3.62.so /usr/lib/libfmod-3.61.so" That's all Niko P.S: You can enable sound in ther racer.ini (section audio) and you can also start the game in fullscreen (gfx.ini)
Ah, I also just wanted to point out the "symlink fix", but seeing that Nikolaus was apparently faster. Apart of the missing libfmod-3.61 dependency the ebuild seems to work fine. Thanks everyone. :-) Oh...and just for the protocoll...I have to say that the request for a racer package in fact even dates back to a bugreport in 10/2002 that has probably been more or less forgotten (see #9711). ;-)
took a look at this game, though the screenshots look nice, the game isnt worth a livecd yet. Will keep a eye on it
