Description Stefan de Konink 2007-07-05 13:12:11 UTC
Mergeant kinda works ok, the application itself isn't the source of the problems.

As posted on the gnome bugzilla there is some strange 'free' voodoo going on in libgnomedb when makeing a new database. But this happens not only in Mergeant, also in other applications linked to gnomedb.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Comment 1 Tiago Cunha (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-05 16:18:23 UTC
To unmask dev-db/mergeant-0.66, gnome-extra/libgda-3.0.1 and gnome-extra/libgnomedb-3.0.0 should be unmasked too.

gnome-extra/libgda-3.0.1 USE="mysql postgres -berkdb -debug -doc (-firebird) -freetds -ldap -oci8 -odbc -xbase"

1. Emerges on AMD64.
2. No collisions.
3. Test phase ok.
4. Multilib-strict ok.

gnome-extra/libgnomedb-3.0.0 USE="-debug -doc" fails with FEATURES="test" (build.log attachment follows), but without it:

1. Emerges on AMD64.
2. No collisions.
3. Multilib-strict ok.

dev-db/mergeant-0.66  USE="-debug -doc"

1. Emerges on AMD64.
2. No collisions.
3. Test phase ok (errors regarding db2html, and "No such file or directory", were ignored - build.log attachment follows).
4. Install phase gave the errors (ignored) about db2html and "No such file or directory".
5. Segmentation fault when I tried to add a PostgreSQL database - attachment with the GDB backtrace follows). This is the info I inserted on the form:

Data source name: test
Database type: PostgreSQL
(all others empty)
[...]
Create new database unselected

Database name: test

Segmentation fault occurs after *any* database add. The funny thing is that the database is added. Posted output on gnome-db mailinglist and in the bugtracker of gnome.

we don't keyword stuff that "kinda works", feel free to reopen with a patch or ask again when the problems are fixed

Then remove the keyword ~x86 too. Since the problem lies in libgnome-db not in mergeant. Plus, all these packages have a portage mask because they are beta theirselves.
Comment 9 Christoph Mende (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-05 23:55:01 UTC
ask the x86 herd to do that or ask the maintainer why he put broken stuff in the tree, we don't keyword it.

I'm sorry? I clearly see here ~amd64, so who is responsible for masking broken packages in?!

We are talking about a completely different package that depends on a library that has a broken function. Libgda, libgnomedb and mergeant are all packaged.masked by Leonardo Boshell <leonardop@gentoo.org> (26 Jan 2007).

This bug is about the ~amd64 keyword for a program that obviously works on existing entries in the database. And I'm reporting that this package works with the notation that libgnome-db is broken.

# Leonardo Boshell <leonardop@gentoo.org> (26 Jan 2007)
# GNOME-DB 3.0 betas. For testing purposes only.
>=gnome-extra/libgda-1.3
>=gnome-extra/libgnomedb-1.3
dev-db/mergeant

Anything unclear about that?

Source references are better:
Stable version

The current stable version of libgda/libgnomedb is 3.0.0, available at:

    *  http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/libgda/3.0
    *  http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/libgnomedb/3.0

Because of person X saying something that doesn't make it truth. Next to that the >=gnome-extra/libgnomedb-1.3 has an ~amd64 keyword. In my past years I learned that ~ means 'unstable/testing' what is wrong with adding a package to this list that works on this architecture, but has a dependency that is broken, but already keyworded? As we both already mentioned it has a profile.mask, in order to install it already needs to be unmasked. And has nothing to do with the fact *THIS* program, mergeant, works on AMD64.
