Description William Tetrault 2007-07-01 21:41:56 UTC
This is more a feature request than a report of a problem. Well, it is a problem for me, I reckon =8^). K3B used to offer the option of complete erasure of a disc. However, I noticed that that option no longer existed with v.1.0.1, so I upgraded to v.1.0.2 and the option is still gone. Has the feature been eliminated because of anything to do with the DCMA?

Reproducible: Always

So I presume "Erase CD-RW..." in the "Tools" menu doesn't do what you're looking for?

Trying to reproduce your problem, I've burned some junk on a CD-RW, checked the junk was really burned, selected "Erase CD-RW" and the junk was gone afterwards.

Uhm? And what's said in the comment above; works for me.

Feel free to re-open if the above is not what you meant. This definitely doesn't have anything to do with the DMCA.

Now playing: YMCA! ;-)

note the Severity entry - I entered "enhancement", although I actually am lobbying for the return of the option of complete erasure. If you'll check in the k3b "erase cd-rw" box, under "medium" (which is a drop-down selection menu), there is another box entitled "erase type" (also a drop-down selection menu box), only this box is now empty, where before one had the choice of "quick" or "complete" erasure. It was often a very useful choice to have if one wanted a completely erased cd-rw disc, because the "quick" erasure ONLY erases the TOC on the disc.

I think that this is an upstream issue which should be filed against k3b. We do not have the developer resources to maintain feature enhancements for applications like this. Doing so can introduce new bugs and make it more difficult to diagnose issues with our patches or the upstream source. I am sure if you approach the upstream authors they will consider what you say and patches applied there will benefit users of all distributions.
