it would be nice if there were a clear marking on all documents that said what version of the program in question the document was written for and what revision of the document it is. this would mmake it a lot easier to keep track of what is and is not up to date for the documetation team and for the users to be sure they're reading the right document. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Excellent idea. However, this is the type of bug that can't be fixed at one go. The Editors are currently going over all of the online documentation; I, along with the rest, will ensure that we test the instructions with the latest available versions and indicate the version we tested with on the document. I'll change this to "LATER" since I can't find a "WE'LL HAVE TO FIX IT AS WE GO" button. :)

Sorry, but this is more of a wontfix situation. It would increase the complexity of maintaining documents and provides not the advantage you can hope for. It's not because tools have newer versions that documents are outdated and knowing that gentoo has a very rapid pace development cycle, it would mean that every doc is outdated a couple of days later.
