Attach the output of `hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes`; also - do you have media-gfx/gphoto2 installed?

Well, maybe you should recompile your kernel w/ INOTIFY enabled.
INOTIFY option is present and activated in my kernel, i've tested on a gentoo-sources 2.6.20-r8 kernel and it doesn't work well.
So... will you answer my question about gphoto2? And you have hal-info installed?
hal-info is installed and gphoto is not installed
You've updated your linux-headers and added inotify support to your kernel. However, as linux-headers notes, you must re-compile glibc so that glibc can now know that certain functions API exists in the kernel and can have an implementation. Please reopen as necessary.
