Description Jeff 2007-06-26 18:49:12 UTC
Here seems to be a two-fold issue:

1) Version 13 cannot properly play uncompressed (rarely seen or used any more) NIST/Sphere sound files. If I build sox from CVS, and build --without-flac, it can handle the files fine. The portage version 13 however, even built with USE="-flac" still has problems with the files.

2) Version 13 also seems to randomly strip endian bits that appear after the 1024 bit header in these same files. It's very odd behavior, and I've also cross-addressed this issue with the sox developers.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. USE="-flac" emerge -av media-sound/sox-13.0.0
2. play a sample uncompressed NIST/Sphere sound sample.
3. Convert the sample to wav using sox, and it still appears to have trouble playing it.

Actual Results:
Even after conversion using v13, the uncompressed sample files come out as junk.

Expected Results:
We've nary had a problem with v12.x versions of sox, but apparently, v13 seems to handle AIFF files better than v12.x.

do you have a link where I can download such a file ?
is this fixed with 14.0.0 ?
Comment 2 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-12 16:32:05 UTC
14.0.0 is current stable, retry and reopen if this is still a problem.
