Description Henrik Heino 2007-06-25 11:09:35 UTC
Version 1.2.5 of OGRE graphics library has been removed from Portage, but since it differs heavily from 1.4.x versions and it's pretty stable, I suggest it should be taken back to Portage. Many things between 1.2.5 and 1.4.x are changed, so it's very sad for developers to perform massive upgrades for their code. And for example I work in a project where 1.2.5 is used so I must install exactly this version. I would rather get it from portage than installing manually.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

The OGRE ebuild is dev-games/ogre

Grab if from viewcvs if you want it...

"so it's very sad for developers to perform massive upgrades for their
code."

Sad? It's called progress.

I tend to agree. We manage the tree as a set, and if there's nothing in the tree that requires the older version, there's no reason for us to do the work to maintain it. You can grab the older ebuilds and put them in an overlay locally. You don't need us to maintain it for you to be able to install it via portage.
