Thanks. I'm already working on it. It will take some time though, as it's a major version bump and also because I was waiting for this opportunity to more or less rewrite the hplip ebuild. Denis.
Additional patch released on the hplip website.
(In reply to comment #2) > Additional patch released on the hplip website. Thanks. However, it doesn't fix the main issue I have with my ebuild for the new hplip. As a quick update on this, I have restarted working on this a few days ago due to way too much work in real life and for other Gentoo stuff. So you should know that I'm not forgetting about you guys. The build system has changed a lot so I need to review all dependencies taking all possible optional stuff into account, and that takes time since since my dev box is very slow to compile. Plus, the old ebuild was in dire need of a big cleanup. So, in a few words, sorry for taking so much time, but please be patient it will come. Denis.
I have just committed an hplip-2.7.6 ebuild to the tree. It's pmasked, though, so you need to unmask it in order to test it. Please report any issue in this bug. Watch out for USE flags, there are changes. Denis.
Hi Denis I emerged this version of HPLIP today and works for me. I have a HP Photosmart 2575 all-in-one conected through the ethernet port. I can say if there are any regressions since this is the first version that I'm using, but the configuration of the printer was pretty straightforward using some tips found at the gentoo wiki. The only problem that I have found was the scanner configuration, but I have emerged HPLIP without the snmp use flag. After re-emerging HPLIP with snmp set everything started to work. Marcio.
As I've written in bug #176644 the hplip.conf bug is fixed with this version and everything seems to work for me. Even if this is usually not the right place for questions but is it right that the init script /etc/init.d/hplip is missing in 2.7.6?
i dont know if /etc/init.d/hplip is still needed. I only want to tell that it is working with a ColorLaserJet 2500 connected by parallel port. Thank you Denis!

See first and second items of the hplip-2.7.6 release notes at: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=708542 Thanks to you guys, and a few others, I now know that this new release works not only for me. It is now unmasked and my intention is to ask for stabilization sometime in september in order to get rid of all older versions that still require a daemon. At worst I'd keep version 1.6.10 around if bug #161926 can't be resolved before then. I also plan to mask hpijs for removal in the close future. Denis.
Since there is no more daemon, are the setup instructions any different? I had hplip for a long time, so I am use to the old ways. I used it when it was first released. This new version seems really nice from what the readme says. So, I just install and setup as normal, just sans the daemon setup step? Thanks for your hard work on this new ebuild.
(In reply to comment #9) > Since there is no more daemon, are the setup instructions any different? You only need to run hp-setup as root for a new install and possibly if you're upgrading. This is all explained in the pkg_postinst messages. > Thanks for your hard work on this new ebuild. You're welcome. Denis.
