Hi Kapetanakis,

Thanks for wanting to help Gentoo out with a mirror!

I ran a check and so far, it looks good. I'll run a few more before adding you in.

 * Timestamp on ftp.cc.uoc.gr is Wed, 04 Jul 2007 15:08:02 +0000
 * Current time in UTC is Wed Jul 4 17:49:22 UTC 2007

In the meantime, it would be nice if you could provide some hardware specs and also how many concurrent users you plan to support?
Comment 2 Kapetanakis Giannis 2007-07-04 21:26:51 UTC
CPU: 2x Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.20GHz
RAM: 4GB
Hdisk: 4TB

Uplink: 100Mbps but could be easily be extended to 1Gbps if traffic exceeds.

Concurrent users: As many as the system will be able to handle.
Current max is 500 but will be extended if the system performs well.

Very slow response from us, my sincerest apologies.

 * Timestamp on ftp.cc.uoc.gr is Mon, 17 Dec 2007 12:08:19 +0000
 * Current time in UTC is Mon Dec 17 16:49:46 UTC 2007

Slight lag on the timestamps when I just checked now, could you please ensure it mirrors a little bit more often? We need it to update every 4 hours so we can get it listed on mirrors.xml and give you access to masterdistfiles.gentoo.org.

Thanks,
Alex

Well I did a manual update right now and checked:

[gentoo]$ cat distfiles/timestamp.chk
Mon, 17 Dec 2007 23:07:54 +0000

[gentoo]$ cat distfiles/timestamp.x
1197932874 Mon Dec 17 23:07:54 2007 UTC

[gentoo]$ date
Tue Dec 18 02:21:46 EET 2007

it seems ok. I'm gmt+2 (allthow the rsync server I'm downloading is missing minutes).

Maybe it's that server that causing the delay. Here is my script:

/usr/bin/rsync -rlvt --progress --timeout=600 --delete --delete-after ftp.ussg.iu.edu::gentoo-distfiles /local/mirror/gentoo

is ftp.ussg.iu.edu a valid primary rsync server or should I use another one?

and here is my cron job where you can see it is every 4 hours at 04.
04 */4 * * * user /etc/cron.ftp/gentoo >/var/log/rsync/gentoo 2>&1

regards

Giannis

Apologies for the delay, the mirror looks okay,

I'll add you in. Hoping the minor lag will go away

 * Timestamp on ftp.cc.uoc.gr is Thu, 28 Feb 2008 05:08:14 +0000

Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added your mirror to our list at
http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors.xml. Please start syncing from
masterdistfiles.gentoo.org as the email I have sent to you instructs. We would
like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to
gentoo-mirrors-subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send out notifications of
updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors.
Please also monitor http://mirrorstats.gentoo.org as this application is used
to keep track of the up-to-date nature of our mirrors.

Once again, thanks for the hardware and bandwidth!

For Infrastructure,

Shyam Mani
