When I try to setup my ASUS TUSI-M Via C3 (933Mhz) based system with th 1.4 rc3 livecd I get weird errors. This machine ran SUSE 7.2/7.3 for several years with months of uptime. I usually get filesystem errors in ext3 or reiser. (I use reiserfs because on large partitions ext3 gets noisy) Sometimes nullpoiner errors and sometimes erros in gcc. I tried several boot options. I also played with bios settings. No success. Sometines a dmesg shows a filesystem bug. I am now installing with a rc2 cd using a rc3 stage 1 tar ball. That seems to work. Since I turned of all autodetecting I guess the kernel must be faulty. I do not have cooling problems I also checked that. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.boot with live cd and setup as usual 2.unpack stage1 tarball do rest of setup and chroot to the system and do an merge rsync 3.sh /usr/portage/scripts/bootstrap.sh Actual Results: After a while it will crash in an ext3 or reiserfs filesystem or in gcc sometimes it even crashes in the mke2fs -j /dev/hda10 (large partition) part Expected Results: smoothly install :) board asus tusi-m bios 1011 processor Via C3(933Mhz) 512MB (2Mb for video, did a mem=500M on the boot prompt) not overclocked not to hot. disk wd 40gB livecd 1.4 rc3 stage 1 tarball
Im going to rebuild a livecd with no optimizations, I think this might be the problem on this board/cpu.
i believe you emailed me private confirming -rc4 fixed this bug. reopen if needed.
