Description Frédéric COIFFIER 2003-03-26 18:31:54 UTC
When the /etc/asound.state is corrupted (in my case, after a bad reboot), the
alsasound script freeze and the init blocks at this step.
I think that the /usr/sbin/alsactl command don't check the format of the file
which is put in argument.

This bug is quite old now. Both the alsa packages and alsasound have changed considerably in the mean time.

Can this still be reproduced?

Yep.. it happens on my machine.
First i thought it was because of the devfs->udev upgrade.

Now, after i have deleted the /etc/asound.state and restarted alsasound, it works fine.

So then is this still a problem? Can you provide me with the corrupt asound.state file? What version of the alsa packages do you have? What's the output of 'emerge info'? Can you try using the alsasound init script in bug #41600?
Comment 5 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-02-23 10:44:55 UTC
closing due to lack of response. If this is not fixed, please try the latest alsasound init script from /usr/portage/media-sound/alsa-utils/files/alsasound before reopening.

Thanks.
