The MLs archives are kinda useless without any way to search in them.
Please don't file the "No shit like we don't already know that" type of bugs. They are not useful. Perhaps instead make suggestions on how to improve things. Even stating something as.. Please add a simple input box to archives.gentoo.org using google. site:archives.gentoo.org -archives.gentoo.org/stats/
Until something better can be offered, would you be interested in an opensearch entry like the one we have for www.g.o: http://www.gentoo.org/search/www-gentoo-org.xml FYI, files are in http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo/xml/htdocs/search/ A distinct icon would be helpful.
(In reply to comment #2) > Until something better can be offered, would you be interested in an opensearch > entry like the one we have for www.g.o: Of course; anything is better than no search at all. Also, why does someone feel offended by this bug, goes beyond me. I didn't find any request for this, and the original summary pretty much tells it all. 'Oh, d'oh we already know that' will not get this much further... :/
somebody please make me an opensearch XML file for archives and tell me how to hook it up?
(In reply to comment #4) > somebody please make me an opensearch XML file for archives and tell me how to > hook it up? File committed and link added to www.g.o pages. Just cut'n'paste the 5 '<link rel="search...' lines from www.g.o front page. (In reply to comment #2) > A distinct icon would be helpful. Anyone?
Can we please add this? I really don't care about having a nice icon, but being actually able to find something would be immensely useful, especially since the list is heavily (ab)used for commits-related stuff now and it got plain impossible to browse the archives in a reasonable way. And noone uses -announce for unknown reason, sigh :/
Until then, you can already add the opensearch entry to your list from www.g.o
Well, this is not going anywhere. With things like http://groups.google.com/group/linux.gentoo.dev/topics?lnk=gschg available I fail to see the need for a lame archive that's unsearchable. I suggest nuking the whole site since noone wants to make this less sucky apparently.
