qemu-0.9.0 (app-emulation/qemu-softmmu-0.9.0 and app-emulation/qemu-user-0.9.0) does not boot on a Gentoo system here. When qemu tries to access the emulated harddisk, it simply locks up and does nothing anymore. I can see the text “Booting from Hard Disk...” printed on the screen, but that’s it. The hard disk for qemu is a file in qcow format; I tried version 1 and version 2, none of them worked. For both versions of qemu: * it does not matter whether kqemu is used or not, * /proc/sys/dev/rtc/max-user-freq is set to 1024, * QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=sdl, * it does not matter which networking options are used, * command line is (note the abovementioned points): qemu -hda harddisk.qcow -fda floppy.img -boot c -m 256 -k de -localtime -soundhw pcspk,sb16 -net none -no-kqemu I downgraded to app-emulation/qemu-0.8.2 (app-emulation/qemu-softmmu-0.8.2-r1 and app-emulation/qemu-user-0.8.2) by masking qemu-0.9. The older version of qemu can access the emulated harddisk without problems. The compiler used to build both versions of qemu was i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.6. If this is confirmed as a bug which needs debugging, please tell me how to approach the problem. Thanks. The output of ‘emerge --info’ makes this comment too long, I am going to attach a separate file for it.

This bug does not appear with app-emulation/qemu-0.9.1 (app-emulation/qemu-softmmu-0.9.1-r3) anymore.
