Created attachment 121828 [details] config.log Sorry, mixed build.log and config.log, here it is.
Attached required info.
<snip> /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.2/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lX11 </snip>
I am not able to get imlib to configure itself without requiring libX11. "./configure --help" shows a "--with-x" feature (implying that it is disabled by default), and I even tried "--without-x" without any change. Changing the ebuild to support a new USE flag and configuration arguments is easy, once someone figures out what arguments to pass to avoid relying on X11. I tried to browse and comprehend configure.in of the imlib package, but quickly got lost.
I've added libX11 as dep but it doesn't actually use any symbols from it with asneeded.. when built with USE="-gtk" I would accept a patch changing this. objdump -p /usr/lib/libImlib.so.1.9.15 | grep NEEDED NEEDED libjpeg.so.62 NEEDED libtiff.so.3 NEEDED libgif.so.4 NEEDED libpng12.so.0 NEEDED libz.so.1 NEEDED libm.so.6 NEEDED libSM.so.6 NEEDED libICE.so.6 NEEDED libXext.so.6 NEEDED libc.so.6
