Re installer on 2007.0 Nice try, no cigar On previous releases I reported that LCD monitors can be taken out of range with frame buffer at text stage & then again entering X for GUI Installer. The first bug is gone in 2007.0 but the second bug remains System console shows "loading openGL" then LCD monitor goes out of range Secondly, having booted using nox & running text mode installer, the system complied for 24 hours then encountered compile error on sendmail There are no options on the installer screen to skip the individual package and continue remainder of install script. The only options are :- 1/ Drop to console then retry 2/ Just retry 3/ Cleanup and exit 4/ Just exit This is such a basic omission it is insane As much as I love gentoo, there is a lot of work to be done to catch up with other distro's on the installer front The test system I use is multiboot & the "end user distro's" Fedora & ubuntu install & run fine on the system but gentoo install is always problematic Feel free to contact me for further details you require, I would be pleased to supply any info you need. Reproducible: Always

What LCD is this? Does a config generated with 'X -configure' on a normal install do the same thing?
"gentoo xres=800x600" or "gentoo xres=1280x1024" Seriously, if your LCD is going out of range I really have to wonder about it, since we're using the ranges that are the bare minimum to be SVGA-compliant. About the only thing that I can figure is the LCD won't go to low enough of a resolution. It should be running at 60Hz by default.
Re comment 1 from Andrew This is not a complaint, merely a bug report, and Andrew, if I was a programmer I would contribute code but I am not a programmer. I have however have 30 years experience working in technology & done considerable acceptance testing of software so testing & reporting problems I can do. Re comment 2 on Monitor type, I have noticed this problem in the past with multiple brands of monitors and only with Gentoo not other distro's This specific monitor is a Polyview PT725A analogue input Spec is H 22KhZ-82KhZ & V 50Hz-76Hz, considerable No's were sold into Australia Re X -configure, yes it will also do the same, and again only on Gentoo X -configure as distributed by Gentoo also fails detect the mouse. Leaving the device config as /dev/mouse rather than /dev/input/mouse0 in the xorg.conf.new file created. Re comment 3, Chris thanks for the command line but not needed. I simply rebooted to command line after the failed install chrooted, looked around and added the packages & configs which seemed to have not been completed when the install failed & so the system is up and running. A document setting out the installer sequence would be good to assist in install recovery & perhaps a text/config file so installs can be restarted from where they failed. Another thing I noticed is the LAN card is not set into default until after all packages are compiled so I needed to do an rc-update to get LAN in there, this perhaps should be done earlier in the install process As for submitting the bug report, If I did not believe Gentoo had something worthwhile to offer, I would not spend my time submitting a bug report.
(In reply to comment #4) > Re comment 3, Chris thanks for the command line but not needed. It is if you expect me to be able to fix it. ;] I need to know if using another resolution works for you or not. We are currently using: HorizSync 28.0 - 96.0 VertRefresh 50.0 - 75.0 This is the default for SVGA and should work on any SVGA-compliant monitor, as I said. Of course, it is obvious where it is out of range, but I'm not sure how to fix it for your specific monitor without breaking it for others. I understand that you're only trying to be helpful, but when your first comment is "Nice try, no cigar" it really makes us think that you're just being a dick and tends to put us on the defensive. After all, how would you like it if someone told you that the work you spent six months working on was crap? Remember that we're all volunteers here. Anyway, we do appreciate the bug report and will be looking into it. I will need to know if another resolution works. I'm pretty confident that it will not, but I'd like you to try. You don't have to do anything other than see if it goes into X. Thanks.
Well, I don't have such an LCD and I've gotten no response. Marking this as NEEDINFO.
