The problem is that in kernels up to at least 2.4.21-pre5-ac2 the alim15x3 driver is broken with respsect to the fujutsu lifebook P21xx series laptops. For some reason, the normal work-around for this - forcing the kernel to use the ata66 driver instead of the alim15x3 driver by passing "ide0=ata66 ide1=ata66" doesn't work with the livecd as of 1.4_rc3. Can the livecd disable this driver until a kernel it is working in is released? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Insert CD into my fujitsu lifebook p2110 2.Boot gentoo livecd 1.4_rc3, and at the prompt enter "gentoo ide0=ata66 ide1=ata66" 3.Watch as the alim15x3 driver probes the ide devices, and locks the system. Actual Results: Lockage. This is normal for all stable kernels when the ide0=blahblahblah options aren't added. What is unusual is that the ide0=ata66 etc. options are being passed in. Expected Results: The ata66 driver sould be used for the 2 ide devices and booting should go further. For instance the 1.2 boot cd will go farther before bombing. No further info - this is a boot-time thing.
the latest experimental livecd at www.gentoo.org/~livewire has the latest alim15x3 driver and has been reported to work fine. reopen if needed
