Description Jeffrey Forman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-03-24 00:36:23 UTC
Detail the steps of enabling the infrared port on the front panel of the
livedrive, and suggest a program which makes use of this IR port and allows
scripting the remotes functions.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. set up alsa, make sure it is working properly with the alsa emu10k1 driver
2. edit the /etc/modules.d/alsa file.
after the "alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1" line add "options snd-emu10k1
enable_ir=1" on a new line. run update-modules
3. download rcenter from http://rooster.stanford.edu/~ben/projects/rcenter.php
4. install rcenter and edit its config files under ~/.rcenter to your liking.
5. stick "/usr/bin/rcenter -u 0" in the users ~/.xinitrc or .bashrc so it starts
up upon login or upon X's startup.

Expected Results:
alsa correctly configured, edit alsa modules file to enable IR port, start
rcenter as user and script its config files.

i can post my rcenter config files to a website or add them into the
documentation as it becomes more polished. i consider my rcenter config files
robust, as they control xmms and xawtv seperately with almost all functions of
each respective application working. this is my first addition to the gentoo
documentation, so i am still learning. thanks!

I don't have a Creative Soundblaster with a LiveDrive, so I can't test this. Who's got one to close this bug?
Comment 5 Arcady Genkin (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-15 13:06:03 UTC
I have recently bought a Creative Audigy2 Platinum EX, which has an IR port with a remote, but I haven't set it up yet. I'll be trying to get it going in the next week or so. Hopefully it will be similar.

I don't think that we can place this kind of information on the official Gentoo Documentation page as it is too narrow, too specific. I've talked to ZhEN about this, and he agreed. In the future, we might have a way to deliver specific information to the gentoo user community (for instance a "User-Submitted Documentation" section or something similar), so I'm placing this on "LATER".

Reopening for proper closure.
Comment 8 nm (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-28 08:56:00 UTC
No need for LATER; this won't be fixed at all.
