Description Peter Weber 2007-06-03 13:52:45 UTC
Hello, I am not sure but the "default contrast" in totem itself seem to be to high (can be set via preferences). Everyone with a GMA9xx need to lower the contrast (see link). But, the contrast who is set by the ebuild itself seems to be quit good.

Don't misunderstand me, the setting from ebuild is very good. But why is the "default" from totem itself to high? Or is this a bug of xvimage/gma-driver?

Reproducible: Always

Expected Results:
Default-Setting from Totem should fit?!

Why is this a Gentoo-specific issue?
Comment 2 Peter Weber 2007-06-03 14:11:57 UTC
I don't know exactly. If I install totem complet new (removing all gstreamer and config files), the contast setting is a "25%" in totem. If it hit the "default-button" the contast is at "50%", what the wrong setting for at least GMA900/950.

Maybe sb. has already tried to fix this via a change in the build files, which lead to current situation?

with which version of the xf86-video-i810 driver do you have this problem ?

The 2.0 version had some problems with this iirc because it changed default video acceleration from xv to 3d texture.

No, the stable - 1.x
It is just ugly, but it works.

the current 2.1 version works very good at least here but i suspect the problem comes with gstreamer because with xine enabled or mplayer the image is almost the same.

Totem offers working contrast/brightness settings in Edit->Preferences->Display.

If those settings do not work, please don't hesitate to reopen this bug with :
1) the output of emerge --info
2) the version numbers of xorg-server, xf86-video-*, totem, gstreamer

Thanks
