On my lcd panel with the SiS630ST, after i exit X, my console gets shifted 4 characters to the left, such that these characters dissappear off screen. This is a known problem with the version of the SiS X driver provided with xfree 4.2.1 (and i suspect, 4.3.0 as well) (see the 2nd url below, grep for "UPDATE (03/02/23)"). The problem should also occur on some other sis cards as well. The fix that i applied for the bug is mentioned is the forum thread (see http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=42165), or you can have a look at the following 2 urls for more info..
