Description Thomas Jäger 2003-03-23 13:15:10 UTC
I compiled gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r2 without any changes from my prior 2.4.20
(vanilla-sources) configuration. With this config the kernel crashes when
running mprime program (gimps/mersenne.org).

When trying to use the preemptive flag from gentoo-sources, i can't start the
system, depmod will result with dependencies failures, so no modules can be
loaded (and i need the at least the lvm module, i'm using lvm and all partitions
except / (root part.) are stored in lvm segments)

I'm using the 2.4.20 (vanilla sources) config run make menuconfig and save the
new configuration without any manual changes (of course there are some other
additions from the gentoo-sources patches)

well, without further info. cannot fix.

please reopen when you have (if you have) more info and/or gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r3 did
not solve your issue.

Thanks,

I tried gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r3.

First the kernel still crashed
After using a kernel config with processor family AthlonXP (gcc>31) the kernel
was ok - no crashes (i think mersenne/gimp wasn't the problem!)

Only starting gshield resulted in a warning of wrong iptables parameters
(i think the iptables modules changed)

I switched back to vanilla-source 2.4.20 and patched the kernel sources myself

Thanks,
Thomas
