I think that a gentoo-games mailing list would be an excellent addition to the Primary Gentoo Mailing Lists.People can get support for game related questions, share ebuilds etc. (much like the Gamers & Players subforum). It is essential for good collaboration on certain topics such as writing letters to companies in order to get old games open sourced (see my initiative http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-561228-highlight-.html). I hope you are convinced of the necessity of an gentoo-games mailing list and will start such a mailing list soon! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
a request like this needs to come from the games team.
I agree I see you have added games@gentoo.org. Thanks! Should I send them a mail or are they already aware of my proposal?
Thanks for the offer, but we're going to decline. The "Gamers and Players" forum has degenerated into a support forum for cedega and other non-native gaming. No thanks. We really don't need another place where we give companies like Transgaming more free support. We already ban such discussions on the #gentoo-games channel. Having a mailing list where these things would be discussed would give them legitimacy within Gentoo, meaning it would appear as if Gentoo supported such efforts.

We can make simple rules that prohibits people from asking Cedega related question (which belong with Cedega's technical support). See it more as Gentoo's way of supporting gamers. Were offering help to Gentoo'ers who want to game in Linux. Cedega does the same with their proprietary product which we don't support therefor Cedega related questions don't belong in our mailing list, simple as that. What do you think about setting up the games mailing list as a 3-month pilot? After these 3 months we evaluate if our goals are achieved. I am willing to monitor the mailing list for violation of the rules.
Removing infra till such time as the games team decides otherwise.
The games team has no wishes for a mailing list. There's nothing you're really going to be able to say to change this, so my suggestion is to just let it die. It's been brought up before and every time we've decided against it. We just simply don't see the point and we do not want to support any external efforts officially, such as your effort to get games open sourced, as the actions of everyone associated with that project will reflect on Gentoo, and no offense to you or anyone on your project, but past projects with similar goals have attracted rabid fanboys who give the rest of us hard working members of the community a ad name. We would rather not be associated with such things, and I say this as a trustee, too. Gentoo doesn't want that kind of publicity. We do enough damage to our good name without encouraging more of it. ;] Thanks for the suggestion, but we're going to have to decline.
