Description Wernfried Haas (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-05-24 10:04:24 UTC
I noticed when working on one of my documents with some embedded graphics (iirc created with gnumeric, exported to svg, converted to eps and then imported in OOo) some file would appear in the directory OOo was started from:

# ls -la
total 64
drwxr-xr-x 2 amne users 4096 May 24 11:58 .
drwxrwxrwt 7 root root 4096 May 24 11:49 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 amne users 52978 May 24 11:50 borked.odt
# oocalc borked.odt (just open it and close again)
# ls -la
total 8264
drwxr-xr-x 2 amne users 4096 May 24 11:58 .
drwxrwxrwt 7 root root 4096 May 24 11:49 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 amne users 52978 May 24 11:50 borked.odt
-rw-r--r-- 1 amne users 8382611 May 24 11:58 png:-
# file png\:-
png:-: PostScript document text conforming at level 3.0 - type EPS
and it contains the image.

I guess this could be an upstream bug, but running it by here to be sure first.

There's nothing we could fix w/ openoffice-bin.

I'm not sure yet if this clearly a openoffice-bin problem. It seems that openoffice calls imagemagick:
amne 23763 24.0 2.2 39844 28808 ? R 10:30 0:00 /usr/bin/convert -density 300x300 eps:- png:-
Appearently something goes wrong here.

I also tried it on an Ubuntu 7.04 system, first thing i noticed: It also works if imagemagick isn't even installed. Same goes for Gentoo, whatever openoffice uses then is a lot faster.
So i installed imagemagick on the ubuntu box, the conversion was done via convert now (i guess, not entirely sure about that tbh), but still no bogus png:- file appeared.

I guess it's quite possible this is an upstream problem, but i'd appreciate some input from our OOo folks before pestering upstream with some problem that may not be their fault.

I guess what Jakub wanted to point out (and which I agree to): We take the binary unmodified from upstream, so bugs like that are always an upstream issue (that's different with the source-based build, as we modify that quite a bit). So please do file this upstream indeed, which in this case is:
