Description Steve Flack 2002-04-15 03:40:29 UTC
When Kdevelop is emerged on KDE3 (it uses Kdevelop_for_KDE3) the program runs
fine but is unable to build any apps. This appears to be an incompatibility
with autoconf. To test this bug attempt to create a new C++ console project.
You will see many of the error messages in the output window. Rebuild all gives
much the same. I've tried running aclocal in the directory concerned but it
doesn't seem to help.

Incidently any chance of having glimpse instead of htdig as the dependency as
kdevelop can't find htdig.conf but works out of the box with glimpse.

Funny you mention htdig, actually. I have checked in a new version of htdig,
and I hope that this one is more kde friendly. I have tried to install things
into as standard locations as possible, and I have placed the conf file in a
decent place (hopefully).

I am passing this onto Dan Armak, the KDE guru, about the glimpse issue.
Meanwhile, would you mind terribly if I request that you test out the new htdig
as well?

Comment 2 Dan Armak (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-04-17 14:10:34 UTC
I've replaced the htdig dep with a glimpse one and committed that as kdevelop-2.1-r1. Glimpse is
indeed much better.

As for the incompatibility: export WANT_AUTOMAKE_1_4=1 and WANT_AUTOCONF_2_5=1 into the environment
in which kdevelop builds its apps. That should fix the problem. I've submitted it as a FAQ item, but
the FAQ project seems to have stalled.

Hi,

I've tried adding the environment variables to the /etc/profile (IIRC - anyway
the one that isn't overwritten!) and they appeared on printenv when I logged
in. They didn't seem to make a bit of difference. Perhaps it's not
autoconf/make then? kdevelop worked fine under KDE2 on Gentoo. Dan - I've sent
you the actual errors I get by email.

I have your mail from Monday, I replied to it today (sorry about the delay). Is there another in the pipeline? Anyhow, when I run "env WANT_AUTOMAKE_1_4=1 WANT_AUTOCONF_2_5=1 kdevelop" via alt+f2, it fixes the problem. I'm not sure abut /etc/profile, alt+f2 may not be a login session - please try it that way. That gave me another idea, I'm going to modify the kdevelop k-menu item to add these exports.

Hi Dan

I added the suggested fix to the Kmenu entry for Kdevelop 2.1 and it works. Thanks
a lot....

The default desktop entry was changed appropriately a long time ago. We're now
working on getting automake-1.6.1 to work with de compiles which will remove
the need for the cumbersome exports. So, expect this to be closed soon :-)

Not sure why this wasn't closed, closing now.
