Hello, Im offering to translate the alternative installation doc into the Dutch language if you don't mind to much. If this translation process goes well, I'm willing to translate more (and bigger) docs in the future. Since this is my first serious attempt to translate one of the docs into Dutch, I think I'd need some support from you guys. I'll let ya know! gr. Roderick Goessen
I welcome your initiative. There are still lots of translations to be done, any help is appreciated. Don't worry about making errors and such, I won't commit the document as long as it isn't bulletproof. If you have any questions about making translations, feel free to ask it on the gentoo-doc mailinglist, or to me directly (swift@gentoo.org). It isn't hard, it's just timeconsuming ;)
Well, talking about the gentoo-doc mailing list.. I signed up some time ago, but never received any messages or so. I couldnt find an archived mailinglists section neither. Could you tell me where I can find the gentoo-doc mailinglist archive on the internet, please?
There isn't one, or at least not one that I know of... It's the only one though, I find archives for all the other gentoo mailinglists :)
Roderick, how's it progressing? As I said, if you need any help, just let me know...
Have been kinda busy with school tentamens, but I've got some spare time now luckely :-) I have translated parts of the GWN for 2 weeks now, so I already gained some experience. I use windows notepad to translate right now, but there are quite some symbols not showing alright, something that i didnt ran into when translating the GWN. Like vertical placed rectangles. Have a clue? I would hate to see that the work is going to be wasted cause of it :-( cheers, roderick
I suppose those are UTF-8 characters that notepad doesn't like... You have any idea what characters we are talking about? If you make the comparison with the result (html output of xsltproc) it shouldn't be that hard to see. Otherwise first convert the document from UTF-8 to ISO8859-15? Also, don't forget that under Windows, linefeeds are "/r/n" while under Linux/Unix it is "/n".
Created attachment 10590 [details] sample dutch translation alternative installation guide It's a long time ago since I offered to translate this beauty, but I really wanted to keep word on this one. So here it is. It's not ready to get published. Although I translated all of it, someone should take a serious look at the beginning and ending code of the document. I kept that as is. I was to afraid to make changes in that in case I break the coding. I'm wondering if Sven is willing to take care of that? The only thing is to have my humble name there as translator actually. Got 2 other questions - Can I simply rename a .txt into .xml without trobs? - Is the linewrapping thingy done the right way?
Don't worry, your name will be listed as translator =) You can ofcourse rename .xml to .txt, but note that this won't change anything. It'll still be a xml-file. I'll check the linewrapping later on (only have http-access here), but that shouldn't be a problem: the linewrapping for the output (the html-output) is independent of the linewrapping of the xml, so if you type <p> This is a test </p> This will still be transformed into "This is a test" :) Sorry for the delayed answer though, it seems i lost track of the bugzilla mail who notifies me.
It seems like you've uploaded the HTML-file. Can you attach the XML please? The Gentoo site works with XML-files, and it's a lot easier for me to check it.
Back when I send this file in, I wasn't aware that I was using a parsed file. It give me also trobs once when I had to do division of labour (taakverdeling onder gwn vertalers) and the redaction of the translations for gwn. By now I don't have the correct file anymore. Do I have to re-write it now?
Yes, but you can use copy/paste or even a script to transfer it into xml. I'll do it for you this afternoon, and do a first check (style etc...). Afterwards I'll upload it again so you can verify all made changes.
That's very nice of you, Sven :) Thank you.
Created attachment 11320 [details] Alternative Installation Guide, nl Dutch altinstall.xml
Roderick, I've attached the XML-file to this bug. You can also download it from http://cvs.gentoo.org/~swift/altinstall.xml. I've fixed some small issues: - Converted to UTF-8 - Fixed URL from English installguide to Dutch installguide - Translated some untranslated captions - Added your name as translator You can see the result on http://cvs.gentoo.org/~swift/altinstall.html Futher, great work. I don't see any showstoppers; I'll review it completely in the coming 24h. If I don't find any more difficulties, and if you're okay with it, I'll add it to the official documentation. Once again, great work.
Great you were able so quickly to adjust it to a decent xml file. I'm totally okay with it if you upload the file. I just read it over, but couldn't find any annoying probs. Woohoo!
Reviewed and committed. With many thanks to Roderick Goessen.
