Description Gerry 2007-05-21 14:53:00 UTC
Sometimes, tray icons from KDE applications (such as amarok, for example) aren't placed properly in the Gnome notification area when running Gnome, but are in stead placed either at the very top left of the *screen*, or at a random-ish position on top of the desktop (gravitating towards the top left). When this happens there is a blank space in the notification area where the icon should have been. This empty space doesn't respond to anything, but the randomly placed icon on the other hand behaves exactly as if it was in the notification area (can be clicked etc). It seems random if this happens or not, but starting and quitting the KDE application a few times usually works (either for fixing the problem or making it appear).

This is using Gnome 2.16.2 (latest stable one in portage).

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use Gnome (I use 2.16.2, haven't tested other versions).
2. Start a KDE application that has a tray icon (eg amarok, but others work too).
3. If the tray icon appears correctly, quit and try again.

Actual Results:
Tray icon sometimes placed randomly.

Expected Results:
Tray icon should always appear in the notification area.

Is this still valid? I don't have now amarok installed, but, in the past, I didn't suffer this problem

Thanks

please get back to us (per last comment).
Comment 3 Gerry 2009-01-21 22:11:32 UTC
This bug report is almost two years old. I no longer use Gnome, or Gentoo for that matter, so I can't test this. Sorry.
