that's weird, it shouldn't use the trayicon module with pygtk 2.10.4, could you please check if reemerging pygtk and/or gtk-recordmydesktop helps ? And installing gnome-python-extras ?

ahem I had forgot about this, sorry for the delay : 

could you please post / attach the output of equery files pygtk ? 
(emerge gentoolkit for equery)

and try LDFLAGS="" emerge pygtk aswell ?
