Description Patrice Beaud 2007-05-17 20:25:43 UTC
I wanted to install x86-chroot on my amd64 laptop, but the installation failed as the dev files could not be created:
"[...]
Unpacking stage3-i686-2006.1.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/x86-c
hroot-2006.1/work/opt/x86-chroot
tar: ./dev/atibm: Cannot mknod: Operation not permitted
[...]"

I had just forgotten that my /var was on a dedicated partition, mounted with 'nodev' option, so that the unpacking was devoted to fail miserably.

I don't know if the partition could be remounted with

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. have /var on a partition mounted with 'nodev' option
2.
3.

Actual Results:
the unpacking of x86 stage3 fails because tar can not create the dev files.

Expected Results:
the ebuild should check if the partition containing PORTAGE_TMPDIR is mounted with 'nodev' option.
If true, it should be temporarily remounted without that option.
Comment 1 Patrice Beaud 2007-05-17 20:46:42 UTC
Sorry... :-(
but it seems like I should have check before writing the bug report...

I tried to remount both /usr and /var with 'dev' option to remove 'nodev', but the ebuild still fails to unpack the stage3...
I tried also to remove the sandbox and usesandbox features, but it did not help either.

Hum... I don't have any other idea yet.

Are you using FEATURES="userpriv"? Please post emerge --info output.

yes, I am.

I tried to remove userpriv from my features, and the installation could be normally completed.

Thanks for your help :-)
