Way back in the mists of time, we dropped the ~ppc keyword from transaction-simple, I can't see why. The latest version is 1.4.0 and you can run it's tests after installation with something like:

ruby -C /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/transaction-simple-1.4.0/ Rakefile test
