banshee 0.12.1 is now in Portage, but it requires ipod-sharp-0.6.3 -- 0.6.2 is latest version in Portage. iPod support will not build without this.

ipod-sharp-0.6.3 ebuild

Renamed ebuild and upgraded libipoddevice dependency to >=0.5.3 as specified in the configure.ac . Depends therefore of bug #178814 . Works in my system... 

(still didn't fix the unability of banshee to detect my ipod, although the libraries work as told by the "ipod" command; I will rebuild it for if it should work afterwards...)

OK, fixed also banshee after recompiling, which solves bug #178588.
