Description Nelson 2007-05-13 13:32:24 UTC
AMD64 Livecd, networkless mode, (both on GTK and console mode) :

After setting no NFS mount points , it starts to unpack things but crashes with the following error on the (console) screen while extracting perl:

sh: /mnt/gentoo/etc/passwd : no such file or directory
sh: /mnt/gentoo/etc/group : no such file or directory
sh: /mnt/gentoo/etc/shadow : no such file or directory

The partitioning is ok, and he is able to unpack several things, must be a bug.

x86 LiveDVD, networkless, GTK and text installers

This happens to me too. If I create /mnt/gentoo/etc, it doesn't give this error, but still freezes when unpacking perl.

i get the same error with amd64 livecd, networkless mode

last message in installer.log is:
"GLI: ... - Stage3 was genereated successfully",
wihout any previous errormessages.
installer.log.failed does not get created.

btw: installer.log.failed is placed in /var/log/ and not in /tmp/ as the gtk-installer told me in some other errormessage

This has nothing to do with your computer or anything or a possible bad DVD burn. I attempted to install using the LiveDVD on my computer and it froze at 'Copying dev-lang/perl-5.8.8-r2 (50/116)' and I tried it again in the command line and same thing happened but it said as the first post said, files and/or directories missing. Now I rebooted into an OS already installed and started up VMWare and tried loading up the DVD image, and the same thing happened with technically different hardware other then CPU. I had a hunch that the file was just 'misplaced' or is 'missing' and I think this may be the case.

Verified. Attempted to install with LiveCD instead of LiveDVD and proceeds past the perl package. It must be corrupt or missing on the DVD image off bit-torrent.

Yes, this probably is due to the vdb missing from some of the ISOs. I know the x86 LiveCD works, but I'm not sure about which works for amd64. This isn't a bug with the installer but with the release media. It's already known, and the pre-release builds for 2007.1 already have this fixed.
