Description Klaas Decanniere 2007-05-12 13:41:08 UTC
Upgrading to python 2.4.4 (from 2.4.3-r4) ends with an error, but no obvious clues as to what is wrong.
I tried 2.4.4-r4 which ends in the same way:

Compiling /var/tmp/portage/dev-lang/python-2.4.4-r4/image//usr/lib/python2.4/zipfile.py ...
make: *** [libinstall] Error 1

  python-2.4.4-r4.ebuild, line 175: Called die

!!! (no error message)
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.
!!! A complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/dev-lang/python-2.4.4-r4/temp/build.log'.

I updated to the 2007.0 profile today and was doing an emerge --update system

I still had python-2.3.5-r3 on the system, so I unmerged that just in case. No luck.
Disks aren't full.

During the system update, the nano package had an issue with UTF-8, but that was solved by re-emrging ncurses.

As the last line before the error involves zipfile.py, I re-emerged
bzip2 gzip unzip zip Archive-zip
No joy.

Attach it.

Nothing useful either; try w/ MAKEOPTS="-j1" and attach the log again. Thanks.

I have updated world first (python was last-but-one in the list, with python-updater last) and tried again (still with the MAKEOPTS="-j2"). This time, it ran through. No log-file left to attach.
I guess the bug can be closed?

Comment 6 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-05-12 16:38:26 UTC
Hmmm yeah... If you find a way how to reproduce this issue, then attach the log and reopen. Until then, sorry but we need to see some errors to fix them, cannot reproduce the issue here. :)

Thanks.
Comment 7 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-05-13 12:35:19 UTC
Working flags: CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -fforce-addr"
Broken flags: CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -fforce-addr -fprefetch-loop-arrays"

Clearly, that -fprefetch-loop-arrays is a culprit here (and you shouldn't use it globally anyway, see man gcc).

Comment 8 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-05-13 12:35:42 UTC
NOTABUG; -fprefetch-loop-arrays is unsupported.
