No available method for helping-out with distributing Gentoo torrent files using a command line server? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Setup_A_Bittorrent_Tracker is outdated. Files specified no longer exist 2.No real easy method of testing the server 3.Only buggy gui based torrent leachers are available for this task. Actual Results: Buggy best. Seems to be little documentation either. Expected Results: I would have liked an easy way for helping re-distribute Gentoo torrent files (ie. LiveCD media, LiveDVD media, Minimal Install media, ... I already have an apache server setup, so I figured it would be easy creating another server & opening some ports. To my dismay, the wiki is out-dated and the command line server within net-p2p/bittorrent is buggy including an out-dated /etc/conf.d file. :-/ So if we want to help by donating bandwidth, are we strapped into running a gui interface for the server part? Of course, it might be more secure running the torrent server as a gui with user only permissions.
The Gentoo-wiki is not official Gentoo Documentation. If you want it updated, you can update it yourself. As for point 3), try out ctorrent, rtorrent or any of the other text/curses based torrent clients. Just open up the correct ports on your router. Look at the bittorrent FAQ here: http://dessent.net/btfaq/
Not looking for *any* frontend. Just want to run a torrent server for redistributing /var/www/torrents since my server here sits on all day doing nothing. ie. /var/www/torrents/install-x86-minimal-2007.0-r1 /var/www/torrents/livecd-i686-installer-2007.0 /var/www/torrents/livedvd-i686-installer-2007.0 Looking over the http://dessent.net/btfaq/#maketorrent gives quite a bit of good info. But yet, it still doesn't explain how to do the above easily with running a server on Gentoo. (Nor am I interested in distributing any other personal files.) Guess it's not worth while for a user to set up a torrent mirror for redistributing official Gentoo release files. Dunno. I give up. Would have rather posted to a forum, but considered this more of a sales/redistributing aspect of Gentoo.
