Description Benno Schulenberg 2007-05-08 17:47:54 UTC
Tar's man page is lacking a description of several options that are new since 1.14. Attached patch adds the missing ones. It also puts the options in their correct alphabetical order, removes a duplicated option, and makes several other tweaks. The only options that were left out are --seek and --sparse-version.

This also fixes bug #170691 and bug #168555.

Did you send this upstream?
Comment 3 Benno Schulenberg 2007-05-08 20:06:53 UTC
No, I did not send this upstream, as upstream does not contain a man page. :)
The man page is Gentoo's.
Comment 4 Benno Schulenberg 2007-05-27 09:51:38 UTC
Any reason why the patch can't be applied?
Comment 5 ta2002 2007-06-13 14:56:34 UTC
I would like to see this applied (and it seems more important than "trivial" to me), as well

I just wasted a lot of time because the man page claims that "-l" means "--one-file-system" when it does not (maybe it used to).

tar --help shows even more options.
For example, "--add-file" and "--anchored" (to start in alphabetical order).

In tar-1.20, '--owner' option is erroneously documented:
