The menuconfig command does not run during kernel configuration. A window looks like it's about to come up with something that may be a terminal, but immediately closes out. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1) advanced install ... (additional bug: typo in instructions: "to us the URI browser" --> "to use the URI browser") ... 2) download stage3 from pair networks; use portage snapshot on cd ... 3) build your own (kernel) from sources 4) select gentoo-sources 5) use the kernel's menuconfig process screen pops up and immediately closes "Are you finished configuring your kernel?" (yes/no) no Repeat screen pop up and message. yes .... Your install has failed. Clicking "view log" renders the same quick pop-up.

Bleh, that worked the last time I tested it (which was right after I implemented it). I'll take a look in a bit. At least this isn't a show stopper as you can use the default genkernel config.
Andrew, can you try to fix this for 2007.1?
Starting with 2007.1, the installer will be for networkless installs only, which makes this bug moot.
