Each time I use gedit to print a file containing tabs all of them in the output are preceded with unknown characters, rendered as rectangles. I've tested it on my HP LaserJet 1020 and cups-pdf virtual printer - results are the same. While printing after emerging gedit with debug flag there's a number of following lines in the console output. The number is equal to number of tabs in the text. (gedit:6672): GnomePrint-CRITICAL **: gnome_rfont_get_glyph_stdadvance: assertion `glyph < GRF_NUM_GLYPHS (rfont)' failed Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a new file or open an existing one. 2. Enter few lines with tabs. 3. Print the file. Actual Results: The printed sheet will contain a rectangle in front of each tab. Expected Results: No rectangles at all. I am using gedit-2.16.2-r1 and cups-1.2.10. emerge info *** Deprecated use of action 'info', use '--info' instead Portage 2.1.2.4 (default-linux/x86/no-nptl, gcc-4.1.2, glibc-2.5-r1, 2.6.20-gentoo-r4 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.20-gentoo-r4 i686 AMD Athlon(TM) XP 3000+ Gentoo Base System release 1.12.10 Timestamp of tree: Sat, 05 May 2007 07:50:01 +0000 distcc 2.18.3 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] ccache version 2.4 [enabled] dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.0.31-r7 dev-lang/python: 2.4.4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: 2.4-r7 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.61 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10 sys-devel/binutils: 2.17 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.16 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.23b virtual/os-headers: 2.6.20-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe -g" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/gconf /etc/java-config/vms/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/web2c" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe -g" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="ccache distlocks metadata-transfer parallel-fetch sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.po.opole.pl http://src.gentoo.pl http://gentoo.inode.at/ http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/gentoo/ http://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo/ http://ftp.linux.ee/pub/gentoo/distfiles/ ftp://ftp.wh2.tu-dresden.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://ftp.join.uni-muenster.de/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo http://mirrors.sec.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.unina.it/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo http://mirror.gentoo.no/ http://gentoo.ynet.sk/pub http://ftp.citkit.ru/pub/Linux/gentoo ftp://ftp.solnet.ch/mirror/Gentoo http://gentoo.blueyonder.co.uk " LANG="pl_PL" LC_ALL="pl_PL.UTF-8" LINGUAS="pl en" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages --filter=H_**/files/digest-*" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/portage /usr/local/portage/xeffects/trunk /usr/local/portage/xeffects/experimental" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X alsa apm arts bash-completion berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 ccache cddb cdr cli cracklib crypt cups dbus dri dvd dvdread eds emboss encode ffmpeg firefox foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal iconv imlib ipv6 isdnlog jabber jack jpeg libg++ libnotify libwww mad midi mikmod motif mozbranding mp3 mpeg mplayer ncurses nls ogg opengl oss pam pcre pdf perl png ppds pppd python qt3 qt4 quicktime readline real reflection samba sdl session spell spl ssl svg tcpd theora tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb vcd vorbis x86 xml xorg xv xvid zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1 emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" ELIBC="glibc" FOO2ZJS_DEVICES="hp1020" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="pl en" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="fglrx radeon" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
Created attachment 118212 [details] PDF file printed with cups-pdf using gedit The file has been created while printing following lines in gedit: No tabs in this line A tab in the beginning A tab at the end A tab in the middle
An identical bug occurs in app-misc/tomboy-0.6.3. There must be something wrong with a library which is used for printing by both tomboy and gedit.
Seems to be fixed in GNOME-2.18. Can you guys recheck with it too?
Marking as fixed as this seemed good to me in GNOME-2.18. Please reopen if it doesn't work for you still with 2.18 (libgnomeprint and libgnomeprintui 2.18 versions are probably what matter here).
